Tottenham are reportedly lining up a move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a replacement for Harry Kane should he leave for Manchester City.
Speaking on The Football Terrace podcast, as relayed by the Express, journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Everton and England forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin as an option to replace superstar Harry Kane if he leaves in the ongoing transfer window.
It is no secret at this point in time that Harry Kane has his heart firmly set on an exit, with Manchester City appearing to be the most likely destination. Indeed, it has been claimed that the Premier League champions have already agreed terms with the England captain, even though Spurs remain determined to hold on to their top marksman.
Despite their stance, Tottenham seem to be preparing for the worst, though and have started to look at options to replace their wantaway talisman this summer. Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has been heavily linked of late even though a move seems complicated while Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is another player that has been mentioned quite a fair bit.
Now, another name seems to have been added to the list, with journalist Pete O’Rourke claiming that Everton’s Calvert-Lewin is very much on the Lilywhites’ radar as an option in case Kane ends up switching to the Etihad Stadium.
“I still wonder that if Kane does go, possibly a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton. He’s definitely on Tottenham’s radar. They see him as a potential number nine, and Tottenham see him as potential replacement material,” he said.
Calvert-Lewin is a product of the Sheffield United youth academy, who joined Everton in 2016. Having burst onto the scenes under Ronald Koeman years ago, the 24-year-old has grown leaps and bounds over the past eighteen months, under the tutelage of ex-manager Carlo Ancelotti and Duncan Ferguson.
Calvert-Lewin ended the 2020/21 campaign with 16 goals in 33 Premier League encounters – his best return to date, while also establishing a foothold in the England national team. A proven commodity in the English top-flight, the Everton star still has a long way to go to reach Kane’s level. However, he is a player that could come in and make an immediate impact at Tottenham should a move go through.
Signing him, however, will not be easy as Everton have tied him down to a long-term contract till the summer of 2025. And, knowing Spurs’ situation, the Merseysiders would likely end up demanding top dollar for Calvert-Lewin, which could price the north Londoners’ out of a move. Everything, however, is dependent on where Kane ends up this summer.
