Arsenal are reportedly ready to make an important offer to try and poach England full-back Kieran Trippier from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

According to a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital, Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier and are preparing an offer for the 30-year-old in the current transfer window.

Trippier, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester City, made his name at Burnley before enjoying a highly impressive stint with Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. The right-back left for Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has fared reasonably well in Spain as well, playing a handy role in their La Liga triumph in 2020/21.

Trippier was also an integral part of the England side that made it to the finals of the UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this summer. And, his exploits with club and country meant that the ex-Tottenham man once again became a man in demand in the Premier League with Manchester United being heavily linked at first.

However, it is Arsenal that have now emerged as a serious contender for Trippier as we head into the final three weeks of the transfer window. The Gunners are in the market for reinforcements at right-back as first-choice in the position, Hector Bellerin is on the exit ramps at the Emirates Stadium.

Cedric Soares hasn’t made all that big an impression during his time with the north Londoners and while Calum Chambers did show some promise at right-back last term, he remains a centre-half. So, it becomes imperative that Arsenal recruit a natural right-sided full-back this summer in case Bellerin does end up leaving.

Trippier, to that end, has emerged as a serious transfer target for Arsenal, who are now ready to step up their pursuit of the 30-year-old. What works in the Gunners’ favour is that the defender is said to be keen on returning to England having not fully settled at Atletico Madrid.

The report adds that Arsenal are preparing to make an important offer to secure the signing of the ex-Tottenham man. It is even claimed that the Gunners would be willing to meet his release clause amount of €40 million, as they believe that Bellerin’s sale will earn them some funds to push the move through.

Arsenal and Atletico Madrid were involved in a deal last summer as well, that saw Thomas Partey arrive at the Emirates Stadium. That, again, gives them an advantage, as they share a good relationship with the La Liga champions, the report adds. What now remains to be seen is if Arsenal do end up making a move for Trippier, a former Tottenham defender, before the transfer window slams shut.
