Liverpool are reportedly weighing up the possibility of signing Arsenal’s French centre-forward Alexandre Lacazette in a shock move.

According to a report from El Gol Digital, Liverpool are considering the prospect of launching a raid on Premier League rivals Arsenal for the signing of Alexandre Lacazette in the ongoing transfer window.

Lacazette arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2017 from Olympique Lyon and has largely been a consistent performer for the Gunners even though there have been rough patches along the way. To date, the Frenchman has scored 65 goals and set up 28 more in 170 games for the north London giants.

Having entered the final year of his contract, Lacazette, who top-scored for Arsenal last term, has been linked with an exit all summer long. And, in a bit of a shocking development, Liverpool seem to have registered an interest in the 30-year-old.

Liverpool head into the new season needing to bolster their attacking unit after the last campaign when Jurgen Klopp & co. were over-reliant on Mohamed Salah to produce the goods. Both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino misfired big time, and it seems like the Reds have run out of patience with the latter, who has not been delivering in front of goal as much.

In addition to that backup striker Divock Origi is not favoured by manager Klopp and the Belgian international is a subject of transfer interest from London club West Ham United. His departure would leave Liverpool short on numbers in attack, especially so, with the report claiming that the Merseysiders would be happy to let Firmino leave as well, amid interest from Atletico Madrid.

And, it is further claimed by the Spanish outlet that Lacazette is being viewed as the man to replace the Brazilian forward at Anfield. A seasoned campaigner and a proven Premier League performer, the Frenchman is also unlikely to cost much owing to his contract situation, with the Gunners demanding just £15 million for the 30-year-old.

However, Lacazettet does not really seem like a good fit in Klopp’s Liverpool side nor the profile of players that the Reds have looked to target under Michael Edwards. Better take this one as of those bizarre speculations that randomly show up but lead to nothing.
