Transfer News: West Ham open talks to sign Divock Origi

West Ham United are reportedly prepared to make a summer swoop for Liverpool forward Divock Origi, available for just £15 million this summer.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, West Ham United have set their sights on Divock Origi. The Liverpool forward may have emerged as a late option for David Moyes, who is determined to sign a new striker this summer.

West Ham have already initiated discussions over the potential move, hoping to take advantage of the player’s precarious situation at Anfield to sign him up for a cut-price. Origi is apparently worth around £15 million, with Liverpool themselves ready to cash in on him.

The club’s interest in the Belgian star stems from the lack of depth in the goalscoring department. West Ham have failed to retain the services of Jesse Lingard this summer, thus leaving Moyes with Michail Antonio as the only reliable goalscoring option in the final third.

The Londoners have been linked with a move for multiple attackers so far, including Tammy Abraham. But West Ham haven’t had much luck, with Abraham, for one, also appearing as a target for Arsenal and Aston Villa, while another top target in Paul Onuachu is not favoured by Moyes.

It is believed that the former Manchester United boss is looking for a player who is similar to Antonio. As such, Origi fits the bill perfectly due to his pace and dynamism in the final third, coupled with his athleticism that should tune in well with Moyes’ tactical philosophy that relies heavily on the counter.

Unfortunately, the former LOSC Lille forward hasn’t had a bright spell at Liverpool since joining the club in 2014. He has featured in over 150 competitive appearances for Liverpool, but the majority of them came from the bench. In fact, the Belgian is yet to feature in over 1,500 minutes of league football in any of his seven seasons at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp, therefore, is keen on offloading him in an attempt to make space for potential new signings. The Reds are in the market for a new wide attacker this summer, with Arnaut Danjuma emerging as one of the many candidates.

Origi, for his part, is yet to attract too many suitors, but a move to West Ham will certainly give him an ideal opportunity to prove himself after seven years of struggle at Liverpool.
