Leeds United are preparing a new offer for Lewis O’Brien after Huddersfield Town rejected their initial approach, with the player keen to join Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.

According to Football Insider, Leeds United will go back to Huddersfield Town with a new offer for Lewis O’Brien in the coming days. The midfielder remains keen on joining up with Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, and with a year left on his contract, a deal is expected to be stuck before the transfer window shuts.

Leeds United are eyeing competitive additions to their squad after a delightful first season back in the Premier League. Bielsa’s men finished in ninth place, giving their fans many memorable moments. The Argentine manager wants to bring O’Brien this summer as cover and competition to his current midfielders.

O’Brien has steadily become one of Huddersfield’s most important players and, at 22 years of age, has a long career in front of him. He remains keen to join Leeds this summer to further his career. He wants an upgrade over the Terriers and believes Bielsa could take his game to the next level.

Leeds’ interest is nothing new, as they have been tracking the midfielder for quite a while now. The Yorkshire-based side made an initial attempt by lodging a bid valued around £2-£3 million recently. The Terriers rejected the approach and expected Leeds to come back with a better offer.

Bielsa’s side are preparing a new, improved bid and remain hopeful of landing their man. Leeds will have to offer a significant amount of money to prise O’Brien away.

The midfielder has one year left on his current contract. However, Huddersfield can exercise a 12-month extension to the deal if needed, and hence are demanding a bigger fee than the initial offer from Leeds this summer. The Premier League side are willing to improve on their first bid, to bring the 22-year-old.

O’Brien could be one of many more signings Leeds make in this transfer window. There is further interest in players for various positions. Okay Yuksulu of Celta Vigo remains linked for a midfield berth, while the Whites are also keeping tabs on Argentine striker Adolfo Gaich among other players.

Bielsa generally has a strong enough squad to continue in the Premier League, although most of the players linked will improve the depth. O’Brien, however, can be considered a prospect to develop further, and under the tutelage of the Argentine tactician, he sure can become one of the future stars at Elland Road.
