Chelsea are reportedly interested in Matthijs de Ligt, although Juventus consider the 21-year-old Dutch international to be untouchable.

According to Calciomercato Web, Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt is high on Chelsea’s list of defensive targets. The Blues want to tie down a deal for the Dutchman, although the Bianconeri consider him untouchable in the current market. The Premier League side are prepared to include players in the deal, including Timo Werner.

Chelsea are ready to splash more money before the transfer window shuts. Despite being close to a huge deal for Romelu Lukaku, the Blues want another Serie A star for next season. Although an agreement would be complicated, Matthijs de Ligt is the latest name to be linked with the Premier League side.

The report suggests Chelsea are willing to offer €60 million in cash along with Timo Werner, meaning the total package is worth €105 million considering the German’s value. It suggests Chelsea want to offer Werner because of the impending arrival of Lukaku, which could mean less game time for the former RB Leipzig forward.

The Blues consider de Ligt to eventually be the long-term heir for Thiago Silva, who remains on a one-year contract. However, Juventus view the Dutchman as valuable and are unlikely to entertain offers at the moment. Moreover, Werner is understood to be a vital part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans next season.

The report later suggests, Juventus might propose a counter offer to Chelsea, wherein they want €30 million in cash along with Jorginho. Meanwhile, the UEFA Euro 2020 winner is considered irreplaceable by Tuchel, similar to Juventus’ stance on De Ligt.

From an outside standpoint, a deal looks less likely given the current circumstances. Chelsea are not particularly looking at the left side of the central defence. The right side is a priority, and they are chasing Jules Kounde. However, with Kurt Zouma deciding to stay put, a deal for the Sevilla star has not progressed.

Additionally, Juventus have already agreed on a deal with Atalanta for Merih Demiral, which will prevent them from tweaking their central defence any further, let alone selling de Ligt. Overall, an agreement for the Dutchman looks unlikely, and this should be treated merely as a rumour.
