Manchester United and Real Madrid are reportedly among the clubs that are vying for the signature of 18-year-old French whizkid Eduardo Camavinga.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, the race to sign Eduardo Camavinga in the summer transfer window has not ended just yet. Manchester United and Real Madrid are waging a battle to secure the services of the 18-year-old French whizkid, who could leave Stade Rennais this year.

Eduardo Camavinga is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players plying their trade in France at the moment. Having broken into the Stade Rennais first-team setup aged just 16 two years ago, the teenage prodigy has gone from strength to strength, already featuring 82 times for the Ligue 1 outfit.

His progress has also helped Camavinga break into the French national side already, although he was not a part of the squad that featured at UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this summer.

Nevertheless, the 18-year-old whizkid has made enough of an impression to attract some of the biggest clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid and Manchester United among the clubs hot on his trails.

Real Madrid are in a transitional period following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the new manager. And midfield is one department that is set to see some major changes in the short-term future, with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career and Toni Kroos into his thirties as well.

To that end, Camavinga is a viable target for Real Madrid, who have also been linked with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Manuel Locatelli and Joshua Kimmich, among others. As for Manchester United, they are in a precarious situation over the future of midfield mainstay Paul Pogba, who has been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Pogba’s departure would leave a huge void in the midfield department at Old Trafford, which is why Manchester United have been scouring the transfer market for a central midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, Camavinga is a viable target for the Red Devils, who are keen on signing him this summer.

As per the report, Rennes are opening up to the prospect of cashing in on Camavinga before the transfer window slams shut, although both Real Madrid and Manchester United would be ready to wait till next year to pounce as well, in case the player stays put at the French club. What now remains to be seen is if he ends up making a big move this summer or becomes a free agent next year.
