Liverpool are reportedly readying a player-plus-cash offer for Real Betis and Argentina midfielder Guido Rodriguez in the current transfer window.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Liverpool are ready to ramp up their pursuit of Real Betis midfield mainstay Guido Rodriguez. The Reds are preparing an offer for the Argentine international that would see one of two players make their way from Anfield to the Benito Villamarin.

Rodriguez signed for Real Betis in January last year from Mexican outfit Club America and has quickly developed into a mainstay for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. The 27-year-old essayed an important role as the Verdiblancos finished sixth in La Liga last season. He followed it up with some strong showings at the 2021 Copa America, helping Argentina lift the coveted trophy after a long drought.

Rodriguez’s development and rise in prominence has seemingly landed him on the radars of Liverpool, who are in the market for a new central midfielder. The Reds, after making a blazing start to the transfer window with the quickfire addition of Ibrahima Konate, have gone quiet, even though Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in some new faces in order to mount a title challenge.

The need for a new signing is the most in the central midfield department following the exit of Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutchman signed for Paris Saint-Germain this summer after his contract with Liverpool expired, leaving a massive void in the middle of the park at Anfield.

With James Milner not getting any younger and the duo of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain proving unreliable, Liverpool must replenish their midfield department with a fresh addition. This has seen the Merseyside giants get linked with a variety of options ranging from Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan to Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard, among others.

Now, Guido Rodriguez of Real Betis has also emerged as a viable target for the Reds, who are now preparing an offer for the 27-year-old. As per the report, the La Liga side are holding out for a fee in excess of €50 million for the Argentine, forcing Liverpool to come up with a creative proposal for the midfielder.

Indeed, the Merseyside giants are considering a player-plus-cash offer for Rodriguez, with Joel Matip and Divock Origi being the two names that are being offered to Real Betis. The former, a reliable player on his day, has had to battle with injuries throughout his stint at Anfield. The latter, meanwhile, is out of favour and has strongly been linked with an exit.

The report adds that both the players are of appeal to Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini. However, it remains to be seen if the La Liga outfit are willing to accept such a proposal from Liverpool.
