Liverpool have entered the chase to sign Eduardo Camavinga, with the talented youngster tipped to leave Rennes this summer.

According to Olympique et Lyonnais, Liverpool are ready to rival several Premier League clubs in pursuit of Eduardo Camavinga. The Stade Rennais midfielder is one of the two Ligue 1 players the club are tracking at the moment, with the youngster likely to leave Rennes this summer.

It appears the Reds are hoping to take advantage of Ligue 1’s financial crisis to prise away some of the best talents. They have recently been linked with a swoop for Houssem Aouar, and it seems Camavinga is also on the shopping list, as Jurgen Klopp continues to scour the market for an ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman’s exit to Paris Saint-Germain has left the former Dortmund coach desperate for reinforcements in the middle of the park. In Camavinga, the German tactician should find himself a talented operator who likes to carry the ball up the pitch and is blessed with excellent passing, tactical and positional awareness.

At the age of just 18, Camavinga has notched up 82 competitive appearances for Rennes. His individual quality in the middle of the park has earned him quite the reputation, with the teenager even being touted as the face of the future French midfield.

For Liverpool, Camavinga is an ideal candidate to replace Wijnaldum. The youngster does not offer a similar level of aggression or leadership, but he can add more technicality in the team’s approach play, especially alongside a crafty midfielder like Thiago Alcantara next season.

However, the 18-year-old has no shortage of suitors, with Manchester United and Chelsea among clubs interested in his services. The player is said to be valued at around €50 million, though, despite his current contract at Rennes expiring at the end of next season.

Although a fee of €50 million is reasonable for a player of Camavinga’s calibre, Liverpool may find it difficult to match Rennes’ demands, especially in the current financial climate. Not to mention, the Reds have been linked with a swoop for Saul Nigeuz for a fee close to €50 million, further diminishing the club’s chances of landing the Frenchman.

At the end of the day, a lot will depend on Liverpool’s luck when it comes to offloading their fringe players. The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Divock Origi and Naby Keita are also potential candidates to leave Anfield, and their sale will go a long way in helping the Reds fund a move for Camavinga this summer.
