Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing Mikkel Damsgaard, who is also a target for Liverpool.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes Futbol, the race to sign Mikkel Damsgaard in the summer transfer window is intensifying. Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to go head-to-head in pursuit of the 21-year-old Danish international, who is also a target for Liverpool.

Mikkel Damsgaard has the world at his feet in the wake of a stunning campaign at UEFA Euro 2020. One of the standout performers in a memorable tournament for Denmark, the 21-year-old took the whole of Europe and beyond by storm and is now being pursued by the who’s who of club football in the continent.

Speaking of club level, the young attacker has been an impressive performer for Sampdoria since arriving from Nordsjaelland last summer. To date, Damsgaard has made 37 appearances for the Serie A outfit, with a return of two goals and four assists to show for his efforts. His progress has alerted the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool among others.

Barcelona have already bolstered their attack this summer by signing Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero. However, amid increasing question marks surrounding the futures of Ousmane Dembele and Antoine Griezmann, it is prudent for the Blaugrana to keep a lookout for possible replacement options, with the versatile Damsgaard being just the kind of utility option who can come of use for Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, are challenging their fierce rivals for the 21-year-old for good reason, with the likes of Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. blowing hot and cold while Eden Hazard’s fitness woes are not letting up one bit. To that end, Damsgaard’s versatility can come of use to good effect in the Real Madrid frontline.

As for Liverpool, their interest in Damsgaard makes a lot of sense, at a time when Jurgen Klopp is in the market for backup options for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in a season that will clash with the Africa Cup of Nations. And with Roberto Firmino and Mane blowing hot and cold last term, having a solid option like Damsgaard can hold Liverpool in good stead.

As per the report, Damsgaard’s valuation is still not set, and Sampdoria could ask anything between €30 million and €50 million for the 21-year-old. For now, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and others are simply keeping a close watch on the Dane and it will be interesting to see if any of the heavyweights of European football launch the offensive for him anytime soon.
