Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Martin Odegaard and are set to make a proposal for another loan move for the Real Madrid playmaker.

According to Pedro Almeida, Arsenal seem to have kicked into action in their bid to re-sign Martin Odegaard on loan in the summer transfer window. The north London giants are lining up a loan move for the Real Madrid playmaker, with Borussia Dortmund also keeping a keen eye on the developments surrounding him.

Martin Odegaard joined Real Madrid from Stromsgodset in January 2015 as a prodigious 16-year-old who was tipped to become a world beater. However, for one reason or another, the Norwegian playmaker is yet to establish a foothold in Los Blancos’ first-team setup despite being a part of the club for over half a dozen years now.

To date, the 22-year-old has made just 11 appearances for the Real Madrid first-team, having spent most of his time away from the club, on loan spells at Heerenveen, Vitesse Arnhem, Real Sociedad and Arsenal. It is particularly while on loan at Real Sociedad and Arsenal that Odegaard managed to impress, which, in turn, created hopes of a bright future at Real Madrid.

However, ahead of the 2021/22 season, his prospects in the Real Madrid first-team remain unsure, which has prompted Arsenal to plot a second loan move for the young playmaker. To that end, the Gunners are lining up a loan proposal for Odegaard, with the deal possibly having the option to sign him permanently as well.

The interest from Arsenal makes a lot of sense as well, considering they are short of creative options beyond Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka. As a result, the north Londoners have been scouring the market for playmakers this summer, with Emiliano Buendia emerging as the first alternative for the Real Madrid midfielder before Aston Villa swooped him away instead.

In recent times, Bernardo Silva had emerged as a viable target for Arsenal, although a move for the Portuguese international might be a tad-bit tricky to pull off. And so, the Premier League giants have turned their attention back to Odegaard, with a loan move appearing to be likely to pull off.

As per recent reports, the 22-year-old is keen on returning to the Emirates as well, although Real Madrid’s stance on a loan move is unclear. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund are also keeping a keen eye on developments surrounding Odegaard and it will be interesting to see if they challenge Arsenal for the youngster.

For now, it looks like Arsenal are set to propose a loan deal to Real Madrid, with the terms of the deal also giving them the option to buy him outright next summer. It now remains to be seen if the Gunners can bring Odegaard back to the Emirates or if he stays put in the Spanish capital to kick-start his Real Madrid career.
