Manchester United have reportedly completed the signing of 16-year-old prodigy Ethan Ennis from arch-rivals Liverpool.

According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United have landed another promising youth prospect to their club, with the signing of teenage forward Ethan Ennis from bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ennis came through the ranks at the Liverpool youth academy and broke into the club’s Under-18 setup last season despite being just 16 years of age. The teenage forward played eight times for the Merseyside giants’ youth team in the 2020/21 campaign, producing a rather impressive tally of five goals and an assist in the process.

Ennis was held in the highest of regards within Liverpool. However, the youngster reportedly turned down the scholarship deal that was offered to him by the Reds. This led to a lot of interest in his services, with Chelsea and Manchester United being at the forefront of it.

However, it is Manchester United that have come out on top in the battle for the teenager’s signing. Indeed, confirming the transfer, the 16-year-old Ennis shared pictures of himself from Old Trafford on his social media account. The caption on the forward’s post read: “I am delighted to announce that I have signed for @manchesterunited ?. Grateful for this opportunity, can’t wait to get started ?”

Manchester United have been ramping up their activity on the youth recruitment front over the past eighteen months or so, having secured a number of talented young individuals from within England and in Europe. And, with the Brexit rules kicking in, adding homegrown talent to the ranks becomes that much more important for clubs in the country.

As for Liverpool, the Reds are set to demand a compensation fee for the teenager from Manchester United. However, in case an agreement cannot be reached, the matter will be settled by a tribunal, who will determine the value of the transfer.

Manchester United have been impressing with their transfer business at the senior level, having completed the signings of Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho while Raphael Varane is also set to arrive imminently after an agreement with Real Madrid was confirmed. Ennis’ signing means things are looking bright for them on the youth level as well.
