Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on the capture of Leon Bailey after submitting an offer for the 23-year-old, with Bayer Leverkusen willing to part ways.

According to a report from Sky Germany, Aston Villa have submitted a formal offer for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, who could now be set to make his way to Villa Park in the current transfer window.

Having burst onto the scenes at Belgian outfit KRC Genk, Bailey made his way to Leverkusen in the January transfer window of 2017. Since then, the Jamaican winger has been a regular in the starting XI for the Bundesliga bigwigs, racking up 156 appearances, in which he has produced a return of 39 goals and 26 assists.

Even though he has had issues with injury and inconsistency, Bailey remains a top talent, who enjoyed his best campaign last time out, finishing with 15 goals and 11 assists from 40 games in all competitions. And, his exploits with Die Werkself have earned him admirers from England, with Everton having been keen on his signing, along with Arsenal and Aston Villa.

And it seems like the latter may be set to come out on top in the race for the 23-year-old’s signing. Indeed, the report claims that Villa have already submitted an offer for Bailey this summer, and Leverkusen are considering accepting it, as they feel it is the right time to part ways with their prized asset.

Aston Villa have already made a huge signing this summer, bringing in Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City in a club-record transfer. In addition to the Argentine, manager Dean Smith also has Bertrand Traore, Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet as options in the wide areas already at his disposal.

However, it has been reported that the Midlands outfit are open to offers for the El Ghazi and Trezeguet, which would open up a place for another wide player in the ranks. Bailey, thus, would be an exciting addition to the roster at Villa Park as Smith & co. look to build on their promise from last season and push for a European qualifying spot in the upcoming campaign.

The report does not provide any information with regard to the value of Villa’s offer for Bailey, who still has two years left on his deal with Bayer Leverkusen. However, with the Germans ready to offload him, the Jamaican could soon be on his way to B6.
