Real Madrid are reportedly considering a summer move for 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid’s search for a midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window has taken them to Ligue 1. Lyon’s 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has popped up on Los Blancos‘ radar, with a move in the ongoing window in the offing.

Bruno Guimaraes joined Lyon from Athletico Paranaense in January 2020 and has since gone on to establish himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park for the French giants. To date, the 23-year-old has made 46 appearances for Les Gones, while also chipping in with three goals and two assists.

His progress at club level has also helped Guimaraes in breaking into the Brazilian national side and he is currently representing his nation at the Tokyo Olympic Games. At the same time, the youngster has also ended up capturing the attention of some of the biggest clubs, having been briefly linked with Barcelona, with Real Madrid now tailing him.

The Merengues are keen on bolstering their midfield unit this summer, and for good reason, with Luka Modric approaching the end of his glittering career while Toni Kroos is on the wrong side of 30. Casemiro, too, will be 30 before the 2021/22 season ends and so, it is high time that Real Madrid laid down the succession plan for their illustrious midfield trio.

To that end, the Spanish giants have been linked with a gamut of central midfielders, including Manuel Locatelli, although the Italian international is intent on joining Juventus this summer. Among the other options on Real Madrid’s radar are Mikel Merino, N’Golo Kante and Lucas Paqueta.

It now looks like Paqueta’s compatriot and AC Milan teammate Bruno Guimaraes is very much on Real Madrid’s agenda as well. The 23-year-old’s versatility in the middle of the park will be an added bonus for Los Blancos, who could use him in one of several ways in midfield.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid’s interest in the Brazilian midfielder turns into anything serious. If that proves to be the case then Lyon’s valuation of Bruno Guimaraes will be key and it will then be interesting to see if a move sees the light of the day.
