Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City’s versatile midfielder Bernardo Silva this summer as Mikel Arteta eyes creative reinforcements.

According to Twitter user Transfer Checker, Arsenal are considering a summer transfer raid on Premier League champions Manchester City for the signing of midfielder Bernardo Silva.

A product of the SL Benfica youth academy, Silva shot to fame during his time at AS Monaco, playing a key role in their shock Ligue 1 title triumph in 2016/17, following which he was snapped up by Pep Guardiola & co. The 26-year-old has been a vital addition to the ranks for the Cityzens, as he has racked up 201 appearances so far, scoring 35 goals and setting 44 assists.

A versatile player who can play in midfield or on the right flank, Silva had a role to play in Manchester City’s title triumph last time out but continues to be overshadowed by some of his more illustrious opponents. And, with the Mancunian outfit intent on bolstering their attacking unit with the transfers of Erling Haaland and Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish, there could be some exits from the Etihad.

So, Manchester City will need to offload some of their top players this summer, with Silva emerging as one such candidate who could be allowed to leave this summer. This has seemingly alerted Arsenal, who are now considering a summer swoop for the Portuguese international, as per the aforementioned report.

Arsenal are in the market for a creative midfielder after having struggled with a lack of chance-creation in the last season. With Martin Odegaard staying put at Real Madrid and Emiliano Buendia snubbing the club in favour of Aston Villa, the Gunners have seemingly shifted their attention towards Leicester City’s James Maddison.

A move for the England international may prove to be expensive and complicated even though the Foxes are now said to be ready to listen to offers for the 25-year-old. Silva, to that end, could be an option that Arsenal could consider to bolster their attacking unit ahead of the next season.

Considering his ability to play on the right-wing, as a No. 8 or even as a false nine at times, Silva has the capability of being a solid signing for Arsenal. However, the 26-year-old, who had his heart set on a transfer to Barcelona, could command wages in excess of his current £150,000-a-week, while convincing him to move a step down to not playing Champions League would also be an issue for the Gunners.

It now remains to be seen if Arsenal are successful in their pursuit of Bernardo Silva, who is also attracting interest from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid as well.

I think Arsenal don’t need new goalkeeper, the team need just a good goalkeeping coach. Because of 2 young keepers Okonko and Karl Hein are look so good. Bot they have no experience. Go to look back preseason games they don’t know when do they need to step forward and need to save. Help them to advance with good technique

Bernardo is a good player. I think he will be a good signing

  3. He can play bt the problem is his age

  4. Is Silva the best player that Arsenal can sign? He is too old 4 the gunners to sign him

  5. Dickson says:

I think he will be a good addition to arsenal. And at 26 he still have more to give. Go for him

  6. Chrispo Desrouleaux says:

Bernardo has immense experience. Sometimes age goes along with experience. Mikel knows him during his time at City. I think we’re seeing a transformed Arsenal come next season.
