Chelsea are hoping to strike a deal for Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski as the desired alternative for Erling Haaland.

According to SportBild, as relayed by Sunday World, Chelsea are in the market for Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich veteran has emerged as the desired alternative for Erling Haaland, with Thomas Tuchel determined to improve his attacking ranks one way or the other.

The report states that Chelsea have made tentative contact with Lewandowski’s representatives over a potential deal in the summer. However, they are yet to establish a connection with Bayern Munich, with the Bundesliga champions intent on keeping hold of their prized asset even though his contract at Allianz Arena expires at the end of next season.

Lewandowski’s decision to hire Pini Zahavi as his agent has surely boosted the striker’s possibility of moving to England, though. In fact, the representatives are working out a way to seek a move away from Bavaria this summer, with the player himself open to the idea of making the next step in his career.

Since joining the club in 2014, the former Borussia Dortmund striker has won almost everything with Bayern Munich. He was a part of the sensational treble-winning campaign in 2019/20 and one of the main protagonists behind the Bundesliga giants’ sheer dominance in German football over the last seven years.

Chelsea’s interest in the Polish international is hardly surprising as the recently-crowned European champions have found it difficult to strike a deal for top-target Haaland. It appears Borussia Dortmund are persistent on keeping hold of the striker for at least another season, even though the player himself is reportedly keen on moving to Stamford Bridge.

Haaland and Lewandowski are not Chelsea’s only options, though, with the club also being linked with a move for Harry Kane earlier in the summer. However, the wantaway Tottenham star is believed to be an unrealistic target for Chelsea due to his hefty price tag, although the forward is tipped to join Manchester City in a bumper £160 million deal.

It has left Chelsea considering a move for Lewandowski instead. Even though the Bayern Munich veteran is in the final phase of his career, he could be an ideal upgrade over Timo Werner, who, in turn, is reportedly keen on a return to the Bundesliga this summer.

However, it is fair to point out that Bayern won’t be all too keen on getting rid of Lewandowski just yet. They apparently value the player at around €50 million, which is quite a fortune for a veteran, regardless of his recent successes.

This actually should be the best signing for the moment as that of Haaland doesn’t seem to be coming through so soon. During his one or two years with CFC, younger stars within the club will emerge and possibly become better haalands.
