Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a new three-year deal with Manchester United, committing himself to the club till at least 2024, with the option of an additional year.

Manchester United have made an official statement to confirm the extension of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s stay at Old Trafford. The Norwegian manager and club legend has put pen to a new three-year contract that ties him to the Red Devils until at least 2024, with the option for a further year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a bonafide legend for Manchester United, having enjoyed over a decade-long association with the club during his playing days, which included the unforgettable goal in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final. The Norwegian’s second coming at the club has been in a coaching capacity.

Solskjaer returned to Manchester United in December 2018, initially as a caretaker manager after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. And it did not take long for him to make a positive impression, with the Red Devils appointing him in permanent capacity well before the end of the 2018/19 season.

Solskjaer has, to date, taken charge of 151 matches as the Manchester United boss, losing just 33 while overseeing 84 wins in the process. And while he is yet to deliver a single silverware, despite showing a lot of promise, Manchester United have made massive strides under his tutelage, clinching back-to-back top four finishes in the Premier League.

Heading into the 2021/22 season, there is renewed optimism among a section of the Manchester United fanbase, especially following the arrival of Jadon Sancho. That optimism is now bound to increase with the news that Solskjaer has now penned a new three-year contract, which ties him till 2024 to the Red Devils, who also have the option of increasing his stay by a further year.

Upon signing the new deal, Solskjaer expressed his delight at extending his stay at Old Trafford, saying, “Everyone knows the feeling I have for this club, and I am delighted to have signed this new contract. It is an exciting time for Manchester United, we have built a squad with a good balance of youth and experienced players that are hungry for success.”

“I have a fantastic coaching team around me, and we are all ready to take that next step on our journey. Manchester United wants to be winning the biggest and best trophies and that’s what we are all striving for. We have improved, both on and off the pitch, and that will continue over the coming seasons. I can’t wait to get out in front of a packed Old Trafford and get this campaign started.”

The next step in Manchester United’s progress under Solskjaer will be winning the elusive first trophy with the Norwegian in-charge while also closing the gap to Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. An exciting era continues at Manchester United.
