Tammy Abraham is reportedly open joining Arsenal, although the Gunners will have to re-think their forward line to accommodate the Chelsea striker.

According to The Athletic, Tammy Abraham would be open to joining Arsenal this summer, although the Gunners will have to shift pieces to accommodate the Chelsea striker. The North London club are heavily linked with the wantaway forward and could make an offer for his services in the coming days.

Thomas Tuchel begins his first full season as Chelsea boss and has already made his decision on unwanted players. The Blues won the Champions League and boast an impressive attacking line ahead of the coming season. They are also eyeing big-money moves for elite strikers and could be set to move one of their household names.

Tammy Abraham has been Chelsea’s top scorer in all competitions for two seasons and yet considered out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel prefers Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic as his primary options. The heavy links with Erling Haaland show the manager is seeking an elite forward for next season.

The Blues are also liked with a £50 million move for Robert Lewandowski if their pursuit of Haaland fails. All these stories link Abraham with a move away, and there is plenty of interest from English sides, especially Arsenal. The Gunners are reportedly in a battle with West Ham for the striker and might pip them.

Abraham is valued at £40 million by Chelsea, and Arsenal are reportedly keen on taking him out of Stamford Bridge. He is 23 years old and proven in the Premier League, meaning he could fit the profile of players the Gunners have in mind this window.

Arsenal have already completed the signings of Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares, both of whom are very young. Likewise, they are close to completing a £50 million move for 23-year-old defender Ben White while being heavily linked with central midfielders Ruben Neves and Manuel Locatelli, who are in a similar age bracket.

Those links are indicative of technical director Edu and manager Mikel Arteta’s plans to build a long term team. Although Arsenal are not particularly looking for a striker despite several links this summer, Abraham certainly fits this mould. However, if a player like the Chelsea forard becomes available, the chance would be too good to pass.

The Gunners will need to shift pieces from the forward line to accommodate Abraham. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Folarin Balogun are unlikely to move after recently signing new contracts. Gabriel Martinelli also has a long-term future at Arsenal. This leaves Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s futures in doubt.

Both strikers have one year left on their respective deals and could be sold to generate funds for the transfer. While Nketiah was offered a new deal, which he rejected, Lacazette is yet to be offered a contract extension. The Frenchman is highly valued on and off the pitch by Arteta and could remain at Arsenal if no offers came their way.

Abraham offers something different to Arsenal than their current options, and his experience in the league is also considered valuable. However, it remains to be seen if the Gunners agree with Chelsea’s valuation before making an offer. Overall, he would be a good addition to the North London side as they battle hard to regain their European status.
