Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to sign Sevilla winger Bryan Gil in a player plus cash deal that will see Erik Lamela make the switch to Spain.

According to reliable journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing the signing of Spanish prodigy Bryan Gil from La Liga outfit Sevilla. As part of the deal, the Lilywhites will part ways with Erik Lamela while also paying an additional fee of €25 million.

Gil is a product of the Sevilla youth academy and enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks, making his first-team debut for Los Nervionenses in January 2019, aged just 17, after having impressed with the B team. The winger has made 21 senior appearances for the club so far, scoring and assisting two goals apiece.

The 20-year-old spent the last season away on loan at SD Eibar and made a solid impression, finishing with a return of four goals and four assists in 29 games, on the back of which he even broke into the Spanish national team during the international window in March earlier this year. Gil’s rise over the past year had put him on the radars of several big clubs, but it is Tottenham who are set to land the Spaniard.

Tottenham are kicking off a new era under the stewardship of manager Nuno Espirito Santo and sporting director Fabio Paratici. While the focus seems to be on strengthening what was a leaky and inconsistent backline last term, the Lilywhites are also in need of bolstering their attacking unit, where they are a member down, following the expiry of Gareth Bale’s loan deal.

Furthermore, with the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura failing to perform consistently, it is important that the club adds more firepower in the wide areas to ease some burden on the star duo of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. And, by signing Gil, Tottenham are set to address that issue in the short and long run.

The 20-year-old will arrive at Tottenham shortly, claims Romano, with paperwork set to start in the coming hours. As part of the deal, the north Londoners will pay €25 million in fee plus send Erik Lamela the other way. The Argentine has never fully flourished at the club during his eight-year stint, often being bogged down by injuries and inconsistent form.

Given that his contract was about to run out in less than a year, parting ways with him, while securing a deal for an up and coming talent like Gil seems a smart move by Tottenham, with the 20-year-old set to sign a five-year deal till the summer of 2026.

After a slow start, things finally seem to be picking up for Spurs in the transfer market with the club also close to signing Pierluigi Gollini, while being in advanced talks to secure a deal for Cristian Romero as well.

I’ll believe all the hype when the deal is done and dusted, but, this is just the first of many needed, we need a whole new defence, two centre backs and a right back, haven’t heard much about us going for a right back but they have been saying the Tomiyasu is a centre back that plays right back, I think that’s their way out of signing a right back.
