Leeds United are ready to rival West Ham United in the pursuit of Yangel Herrera, who is set to cost around £20 million this summer.

According to The Sun, Manchester City are ready to offload yet another player in the shape of Yangel Herrera this summer. The midfielder has emerged as a hot prospect in the market, with Leeds United, West Ham United and Southampton all keen on securing his services.

Herrera is valued at around £20 million and could join the list of a number of players to leave Etihad in the summer. The list includes the likes of Angelino, Lukas Nmecha and Jack Harrison, while Manchester City also received a small amount in the sale of former academy player Jadon Sancho to cross-town rivals Manchester United.

A native of Venezuela, Herrera has been a part of the Man City setup since 2017. He had to spend a couple of loan spells at New York City FC and SD Huesca before enjoying his prominent breakthrough, at Granada, also on loan.

The midfielder initially joined the Spanish outfit in 2019 and instantly became a key component in the club’s midfield unit. He has since notched up 82 competitive appearances for the club, registering ten goals and five assists.

Herrera’s impressive performances in La Liga had even tempted Pep Guardiola to include him in his first-team plans next season. But the recent contract extension of Fernandinho killed the Venezuelan’s prospects, which means a move away from Etihad Stadium remains his only option.

Fortunately for him, a number of clubs have already come knocking, with Leeds United, in particular, interested in his services. The Whites notably signed Harrison from Man City earlier this summer, and it seems they are open to doing more business by acquiring the signature of Herrera.

It is no secret that Marcelo Bielsa is determined to sign new midfielders this summer, having been strongly linked with a move for Nahitan Nandez. But Herrera might not be a bad alternative given his experience and success at Granada.

However, the Peacocks are set to face stiff competition from West Ham. The Hammers appear to be preparing for life without Chelsea target Declan Rice while they also need a long-term replacement for Mark Noble. So the addition of someone like Yangel Herrera might make a lot of sense.

As for Manchester City, the potential £20 million sale of the talented midfielder could be of massive help, as far as their pursuit of Jack Grealish is concerned. The Citizens have already reached personal agreements with the Aston Villa playmaker, so another key departure should be enough to help them get over the line this summer.
