Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly the latest clubs to have shown an interest in signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, the race to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window is intensifying. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are the latest clubs to have emerged in pursuit of the French international, who is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.

Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2018 and has since endured a roller-coaster of a ride at Camp Nou. While he started out strongly, the 26-year-old has been on a gradual decline at the Catalan club, with the 2020/21 season being one to forget for the French defender.

To date, Lenglet has made 133 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with seven goals and two assists in the process. However, heading into the summer transfer window, it has appeared as if he might have already played his last game for the Blaugrana, as they are ready to cash in on him. And the player does not have any shortage of suitors, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested in him.

The interest from Arsenal in the Barcelona defender comes as a bit of a surprise, considering they are set to sign Ben White. While Lenglet is left-footed, unlike White, it is important to note that Arsenal already have two left-footed centre-backs in Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari, neither of whom are being sold anytime soon by the Gunners.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are keen on signing a central defender for good reason, as Toby Alderweireld is reportedly ready to call it quits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In addition, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have flattered to deceive of late, thereby exacerbating the need to sign a centre-back.

To that end, Tottenham have been linked with several centre-backs, including Merih Demiral, Willy Boly and Conor Coady, among others. And now, Spurs are set to wage battle with Arsenal for Lenglet, with Barcelona deeming him to be surplus to requirements.

Apart from Arsenal and Tottenham, Everton have been heavily linked with the 26-year-old as well, and it looks like his next destination could be the Premier League. What now remains to be seen is if either of the north London can prevail in the race to sign the Barcelona defender or if Everton end up securing his services.
