Manchester United are reportedly ready to turn their attention to Merih Demiral as they prepare to launch a €45 million move for the Juventus centre-back.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United could look at Juventus defender Merih Demiral for a move this summer with a €45 million bid mooted. The Red Devils remain in the market for a central defender and could turn to the Turkish international if they fail to secure their top targets.

Raphael Varane has been at the heart of a summer transfer saga between Manchester United and Real Madrid. The Premier League side have held an interest in the France international for several years, and now might be the best time to get the defender.

As Real Madrid go through a re-building phase, Varane seemingly does not want to be a part of it. The defender seems interested in a move to Old Trafford, and with a year left on his current contract, the deal could be cheap. However, Real Madrid are demanding a high transfer fee and trying to convince Varane to commit to new terms.

Manchester United might not be interested in paying a high fee for the defender. If Real Madrid remain adamant on their demands for Varane, United might look elsewhere to fill their centre-back berth. Cristian Romero was linked with a move after his impressive displays with Argentina at the Copa America.

Romero’s is expected to go for a huge fee, which brings Manchester United to fellow Serie A defender Merih Demiral. The Turkish international is widely considered a solid player in Turin and is expected to play a major role in years to come. The Turkish star only managed 15 Serie A appearances last season but has been a mainstay for his national side.

With Giorgio Chiellini at the wrong end of his distinguished career, Demiral could be considered his long-term successor. However, if Juventus receive a substantial bid for the defender, they might reconsider his future at the Allianz Stadium.

Manchester United might be the club to place an offer for the defender. A €45 million bid is thought to be on the cards, as the Premier League side searches for a viable alternative to Varane. The Turkish star could be a good fit, and the price is adequate for the future he holds under his belt.

Manchester United will still pursue hard the signature of Varane, and if Real Madrid indicate an acceptance of their offer, then the deal will go through. On the other hand, signing a player like Demiral may not be a bad option for the Premier League giants after all.
