Nuno Espirito Santo wants to pair Harry Kane and Danny Ings together next season as he persuades Tottenham to sign the Southampton striker.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are ready to make Danny Ings their top target and make a move for the £20 million-rated Southampton striker. New Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo does not want Ings to replace Harry Kane; instead wants to pair them together upfront in a new-look attack.

If Tottenham are linked to any striker in this window, that player is naturally thought of as Kane’s potential replacement. While the England captain is still considering his future in North London, Spurs are making their move in the transfer market and have eyes on Southampton striker Ings, but not as a replacement.

New manager Santo wants Spurs to pursue a player who is Premier League ready, and Ings could be a perfect choice. The Southampton striker has been a consistent goalscorer in the league, and the Portuguese manager wants to pair Ings and Kane together upfront in what seems like a new-look attack for next season.

Carlos Vinicius, who was on loan, failed to make an impact last season and will not return to London next season. Spurs want to replace the player and believe Ings could be the man to do so. The Southampton striker has a year left on his current deal and is open to moving elsewhere, preferably to a top-six side.

Ings refused to sign a new four-year contract offer from the Saints, and the club does not want the striker to enter into his final year. Instead, they want to cash in on the England international, who is valued at £20 million.

Tottenham could look to negotiate on that price tag and try to bargain, given that he is in the last year of his contract. In any case, for £20 million, Ings will prove to be a good buy considering his consistent numbers since Joining Southampton in 2019. Last season, Ings scored 12 goals in the league after notching up 21 goals the season before.

While Tottenham close in on Ings, they will also try to persuade Kane to stay put after placing a huge price tag over his head. While Pep Guardiola recently admitted a transfer for Kane or any other £100 million-plus player might be impossible for Man City, there are no other real contenders for the England captain realistically.

If Kane stays and Ings signs, we may look at a potent Tottenham attacking line next season. The pair alongside Son Heung-min will certainly be a lethal combination as Spurs will look to win their first trophy in many years.
