Manchester City are expected to drive the extra yard in their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur’s wantaway forward Harry Kane.

According to Eurosport, Manchester City are weighing up a £100 million bid for Harry Kane. They are keen on snapping up the Tottenham Hotspur forward, who himself is keen on moving from north London. Kane even expects Man City to come up with an offer before reiterating his desire to leave the club.

England’s recent setback in Euro 2020 final might have played a key role in further frustrating the Englishman, whose struggles in winning a major trophy have already been well-documented. From a contractual basis, he is tied to Tottenham until 2024 and is expected to begin training under new coach Nuno Espirito Santo after three weeks.

A native of London, Kane’s records at Tottenham are simply astonishing. He has featured in 336 competitive matches, scoring 227 goals while providing 47 assists. Fourteen of those assists came in the 2020/21 Premier League, with the forward ending the campaign as the league’s top goalscorer and top assister.

It is indicative of the transformation Kane has had in his game, especially under previous Spurs manager Jose Mourinho. This new ascension in his play seems to have attracted Pep Guardiola as the Catalan continues his search for a replacement for Barcelona-bound Sergio Aguero.

Manchester City have been interested in Kane ever since the forward voiced his desire to leave the club. But Tottenham’s reluctance and an exorbitant price-tag have forced the Citizens to look elsewhere, with the club recently being linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix this summer.

However, they are now ready to test the waters at Spurs once again by coming up with a £100 million. The Lilywhites have already stepped up their search for a replacement, with Italy’s Euro 2020 star Lorenzo Insigne emerging as a potential option in recent weeks.

A fee of £100 million would shatter Premier League’s transfer record, although it remains to be seen how Financial Fair Play rules may hinder such a move. It won’t be surprising to see Tottenham demand more as well, given the player’s long-term contract and exceptional performances in the 2020/21 campaign.

Kane is not Manchester City’s only option, though, with the Citizens also in contention to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. The Norwegian international is expected to cost even more, but his age represents better purchasing value, with the club even reportedly weighing an astonishing £130 million bid.
