Petr Cech is becoming a driving force to negotiate a deal with Rennes for teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga who is heavily linked with Manchester United.

According to the Mirror, the race for Eduardo Camavinga is heating up as Chelsea and Manchester United vie for the midfielder’s signature. Chelsea have been talking to Rennes over a deal, with Blues legend Petr Cech leading the way to negotiate with the French side.

The future of Eduardo Camavinga has emerged to be one of the big stories of this transfer window. With one year left on his deal at the Ligue 1 club, Rennes are resigned to losing him this summer, even for a minimal transfer fee. The French side initially asked for as much as €100 million but are willing to sell for far less now.

After it was made clear by Camavinga’s camp the player does not intend to sign a new contract, Rennes have put him up for sale at €30 million. Manchester United have been the frontrunners after making him their priority target since securing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

However, Chelsea have entered the chase for the teenage sensation, with Petr Cech thought to be leading negotiations with Rennes. The former goalkeeper still has close connections with the Ligue 1 side, having already helped secure Edouard Mendy last summer, who went on to win the Champions League.

Cech is growing in his role at the club and could be heavily involved in transfer dealings in the future. Chelsea managing director Marina Granvska has been reportedly pleased with the legendary goalkeeper’s role in landing Mendy and is excited to hand the Blues’ legend more important responsibilities.

His status could be further enhanced if Camavinga comes to Stamford Bridge. Cech is thought to be close to Rennes and has plenty of contacts in important places, given his past with the club as a player.

Chelsea want Camavinga to improve the quality of their Champions League-winning side and believe the French prodigy will be a key player for the future. Thomas Tuchel reportedly admires the teenager as his club hopes to beat their challengers Manchester United for the sensation.

United are looking at Camavinga as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, whose future remains uncertain with a year left on his current deal. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer & co. see the Rennes starlet could be the perfect replacement for the United star.

Camavinga was interested in moving to Manchester United but could have his head turned by Chelsea’s approach. Both clubs will play in the Champions League next season and are expected to battle for the Premier League title. It now remains to be seen who prevails in the race to land the prodigious midfielder.
