Manchester United forward Daniel James has emerged on the radar of Leeds United over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

According to the print edition of Scottish Mail, as relayed by HITC, Leeds United have rekindled their interest in Daniel James. The Whites are tracking the 23-year-old Welsh forward and intend to sign him from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Daniel James joined Manchester United from Swansea City in the summer of 2019 and enjoyed a fairly solid debut campaign at Old Trafford. However, the emergence of Mason Greenwood in the second half of the 2019/20 season has proven to be detrimental to the player’s fortunes as a regular for the Red Devils.

As a result, in 2020/21, the Welsh international managed just 26 appearances in all competitions, with five goals and two assists to show for his efforts. Even worse so, the 23-year-old only started 18 of the 61 games Manchester United played last term. However, his decline in stature at Manchester United has not done anything to detract potential suitors, with Leeds United hot on his trails.

The interest from Leeds is nothing new, as the Whites had attempted to snap him up from Swansea City in January 2019 before he joined Manchester United later that year. Leeds have since tried to sign the 23-year-old forward on a couple of other occasions, having attempted to secure his services in each of the last two transfer windows.

However, the ongoing summer transfer window could give them their best opportunity yet to land James, who is likely to drop a notch down the pecking order once Jadon Sancho completes his move to Manchester United. Leeds have indeed been in the market for a wide attacker as well, even though they have signed Jack Harrison on a permanent deal.

However, with Helder Costa failing to impress last season, it is understandable why the West Yorkshire club would want to sign a winger. To that end, Leeds have been linked with Noa Lang, Noni Madueke and Ryan Kent among others, with James the latest wide forward to emerge on their radar.

As per Scottish Mail (h/t HITC), Leeds are simply tracking James as of now, and it remains to be seen if they will firm up their interest in the 23-year-old. For now, the Welsh international’s position at Manchester United has become more frustrating and it will be interesting to see if he agitates for a summer departure amid the interest from Leeds.
