Manchester City have secured a deal in principle to sign Alejandro Alcala, who is tipped as the next big thing in North American football.

According to a report from ESPN Deportes, Manchester City have reached an agreement with Alejandro Alcala over a direct transfer to England in the future. Aged just 15, the LA Galaxy youth player has raised many eyebrows with his performances in the youth levels and is tipped as the next big thing in North American football.

A midfielder by trade, Alcala was born in California but has Mexican parents. He has so far chosen to represent the Mexican youth sides despite being contacted with the United States’ footballing authority to play for the country of his birth.

He is, nevertheless, expected to become an asset for LA Galaxy, although it appears his future in California could be in major doubt.

Indeed, Alcala has been reportedly invited by Manchester City and Barcelona scouts to train with the team. He has shown a lot of promise as well, impressing several English scouts, with Man City reaching a preliminary agreement that would see him arrive in England as soon as he comes of age.

It could be a massive coup for the newly-crowned Premier League champions, who have already had a lot of success when it comes to integrating talented young players into their senior side. The rapid rise of Phil Foden has already been well-documented, while Liam Delap and Pablo Moreno are hoping to gain a more prominent role in the first team next season.

The likes of Lukas Nmecha, Jadon Sancho, and Jack Harrison have also found a lot of success elsewhere, though Sancho has ended up joining cross-town rivals Manchester United this summer.

Aside from the sheer potential, Alcala has also showcased a style of play that goes hand in hand with Pep Guardiola’s tactical philosophy. He is described as a fast, skilful dribbler who idolises Brazilian legend Ronaldinho. However, it is far too early to bet on Alejandro Alcala, as the 15-year-old is yet to even make an impact in Major League Soccer.

It will be interesting to see how the youngster continues his progress at LA Galaxy II over the next few years.
