Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly lodged a bid worth €18 million for 22-year-old Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who wants to join Spurs.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have made their move to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu in the summer transfer window. An offer worth €18 million is on the table for Bologna, who want up to €25 million for the 22-year-old, with the defender keen to join the north London club.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is coming off his second full season with Bologna, having joined the Serie A club from Sint-Truiden in the summer of 2019. In their period, the 22-year-old has turned out 63 times for the Rossoblu while chipping in with three goals and as many assists.

In addition to being a solid customer at the heart of the defence, the Japanese international is also adept at playing as a right-back. And his progress over the last couple of years has duly been noted by one of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Tottenham interested in signing Tomiyasu from Bologna this summer.

Tottenham are in a transitional period following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager. Defence is likely to be one of the departments addressed by Nuno, especially with veteran centre-back Toby Alderweireld being ready to call it quits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The departure of Alderweireld will create a huge void at the back for Spurs, especially with neither Eric Dier nor Davinson Sanchez being convincing enough at the back of late. As a result, it is imperative that Tottenham sign a central defender this summer, with Jannik Vestergaard among those on their radar. And Tomiyasu is a viable target for the north Londoners as well.

What also works in favour of the Premier League heavyweights is the fact that the 22-year-old wants the move to see the light of the day. And Tottenham have tabled a bid worth €18 million for Bologna, although the Serie A club want to recoup between €20 million and €25 million to part ways with the youngster.

However, Spurs remain in negotiations with the Rossoblu over the prospect of signing Tomiyasu this summer. What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham can convince Bologna to sell the 22-year-old Japanese defender for €18 million or if they are forced to raise their offer for him.
