Tottenham are reportedly weighing up the prospect of signing 24-year-old Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from Serie A giants AC Milan.

According to a report by Eurosport, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Franck Kessie in the summer transfer window. The Premier League giants are currently exploring the possibility of securing the services of the 24-year-old Ivorian midfielder, who is facing an uncertain future with Serie A heavyweights AC Milan.

Franck Kessie has come leaps and bounds since joining AC Milan from Atalanta in 2017. Initially signed on loan by the Rossoneri, his stay at San Siro was made permanent two years later. In this period, the Ivory Coast international has gone on to establish himself as a pivotal piece for Milan as well as one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

To date, Kessie has raked in 184 appearances for AC Milan, chipping in with 30 goals and 15 assists along the way. However, his future at San Siro is highly uncertain, with his current deal running out in less than a year’s time. With developments on the contract renewal front being rather slow, there has been an advent of suitors in his pursuit, with Tottenham Hotspur hot on his trails.

Tottenham are currently in a transitional period after finally appointing a manager following a 72-day period without a permanent head coach. With Nuno Espirito Santo now at the helm, Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici can finally get to work and make improvements to the first-team squad.

To that end, midfield is believed to be one of the areas that are in desperate need of being bolstered this summer, with Miralem Pjanic heavily linked with a move. Kessie is a viable target for the north Londoners as well, with Tottenham now beginning the process of exploring the possibility of a transfer.

Spurs ought to be aware of the difficulties that AC Milan have faced this summer in tying down their best players to new deals. The Serie A giants have already lost the services of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu, with Kessie and Davide Calabria now at an impasse with the club over the terms of a new deal.

While Milan continue to press hard to secure the long-term future of the 24-year-old, who has also been linked with Arsenal in recent times, Tottenham are in line to test the water with an offer soon. What now remains to be seen is if north London club make their move for the Ivorian midfielder in the coming weeks or if he stays put at San Siro.
