Manchester United are reportedly just one step away from completing the transfer of Eduardo Camavinga, with Rennes discussing final terms.
According to Rudy Galetti, Manchester United are on the verge of completing the capture of Eduardo Camavinga. The Premier League giants have officially submitted a bid for the Rennes midfielder, with the two clubs reportedly discussing final terms before they look to officiate the deal.
Camavinga’s potential move to Old Trafford should serve as a major blow for Paris Saint-Germain. Earlier reports had even suggested that the youngster is keen on remaining in France, but it seems he has been attracted to the prospect of becoming a first-team star for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Once the move gets finalised, Camavinga will become Manchester United’s third signing of the summer. He will follow Tom Heaton and Borussia Dortmund superstar Jadon Sancho, who joined the club at the end of last month.
While Manchester United spent a fortune on Sancho, it appears Camavinga might be available for a cut-price fee this summer. The youngster’s current contract at Rennes expires next summer, thus forcing the Ligue 1 outfit to cash in on him for a lower fee. Earlier this month, the Red Devils were reportedly weighing up a bid worth just €30 million.
At Old Trafford, the Frenchman will possibly be considered as a long-term replacement for Nemanja Matic. He might also provide some much-needed competition for Fred and Scott McTominay in the Manchester United midfield.
The growing concerns over Paul Pogba’s future also makes Camavinga a viable addition to the Manchester United squad. The youngster could be a useful component in Solskjaer’s second line of press, especially given his ball progression and positional sense.
However, the Red Devils might need to sort out the future of some of their unwanted players before they can accommodate Camavinga into the first-team setup. Jesse Lingard still remains at Old Trafford despite West Ham United’s desire to acquire his services permanently, whereas Manchester United are undecided over the futures of David de Gea and Dean Henderson.
