Liverpool are ready to rival Manchester City in the pursuit of Piotr Zielinski, as he faces an uncertain future at Napoli.

According to the latest report from the Calciomercato, Liverpool have emerged as the newest club to join the race to sign Piotr Zielinski. The Napoli playmaker has become a hot topic in the market as the Serie A outfit looks to combat the pandemic’s financial crises.

Manchester City have already shown their desire to sign Zielinski in the summer. However, this week, Liverpool have enquired about the possibility of signing the Polish international, who is admired by head coach Jurgen Klopp. The German tactician has been keeping an eye on Zielinski for a long time, owing to his style of play.

This summer gives Liverpool an excellent opportunity to snap him up, as the midfielder faces an uncertain future at Napoli. Formerly of Udinese, the 27-year-old has spent five seasons in Naples, notching up 239 competitive appearances for the Partenopei.

The recently concluded 2020/21 campaign was by far the most productive one, though, with the playmaker being involved in 19 league goals. His productivity in the final third helped Napoli pose a strong challenge for the Champions League places, although they narrowly missed out on a top-four finish to Juventus.

However, Zielinski faced massive criticism in the summer following his below-par performances in the European Championships. He was a part of the underwhelming Poland side that was knocked out of the group stage.

That hasn’t deterred Liverpool, though, as the Reds continue their search for creative midfielders. One of the names linked with a move to Anfield in Saul Niguez. But the Atletico Madrid star is expected to cost a fortune, with Chelsea also keen on his services.

In Zielinski, Klopp will find himself a cost-effective alternative, although the Reds may still have to fork out a sizable fee. Not to mention, Man City might not be the only other club interested in his services, given the fact that Arsenal have also been scouting the Polish international this summer.

It might make things difficult for Liverpool, though it seems the Premier League giants have already found their desired target in Renato Sanches. The LOSC Lille midfielder is, in fact, on the verge of completing a €37 million switch to Anfield, most likely as the direct replacement for the departed Georginio Wijnaldum, who has signed for PSG.
