Liverpool are reportedly interested in making a swoop for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior in the ongoing transfer window.

According to Eduardo Inda on El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has emerged as a transfer target for Premier League bigwigs Liverpool in the current summer window.

Vinicius arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 from Brazilian club Flamengo amidst a lot of hype. At the time, the attacker was widely regarded as the next best thing to be coming through in the Brazilian footballing scenes. And while the 20-year-old has shown flashes of his immense talent, he hasn’t been able to perform at the required level of consistency since his arrival in the Spanish capital.

To date, Vinicius has featured a total of 118 times for Real Madrid in all competitions, managing just 14 goals and 23 assists. While there is no denying the potential that he possesses, the 20-year-old, who has been capped twice by the Brazilian national team, often frustrates with his end product and decision-making in the final third.

Nonetheless, it seems like his stock continues to remain high, which is understandable, as he is just 20 years old and has age on his side. And, Liverpool have now registered an interest in securing his services this summer, with manager Jurgen Klopp seemingly keen on bolstering his attacking options ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Having failed to defend their Premier League crown last time out due to squad-depth problems, Liverpool must look to address any such issues this summer. Ibrahima Konate’s arrival adds more quality and depth in defence, with midfield and attack now needing the same treatment as Klopp & co. plan to topple rivals Manchester City from the top spot.

Liverpool were overly reliant on star man Mohamed Salah to deliver the goods in front of goal last season, with both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino going through underwhelming campaigns. Diogo Jota did show some spark upon his arrival, but the Merseyside giants would stand to benefit from adding another forward to their ranks, especially with Xherdan Shaqiri being linked with a summer exit.

Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne has been recently linked with a move to Anfield, with Vinicius also now reportedly emerging as a target for the Reds. Apart from Liverpool, it is also claimed that French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing the 20-year-old in the ongoing transfer window.

Vinicius is contracted with Real Madrid till the summer of 2025. With a new manager at the helm in the form of Carlo Ancelotti, there could be some tweaks made to the squad. However, offloading the Brazilian does look like a distant possibility considering his potential and how highly he is thought of at the Spanish capital club. So, Liverpool might benefit from identifying different targets like Jeremy Doku.
