Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention towards 30-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Insigne, who faces an uncertain future at Napoli.

According to a report by Italian outlet Area Napoli, Lorenzo Insigne continues to face an uncertain future at Napoli after entering the final year of his current contract. Liverpool are among the clubs showing an interest in signing the 30-year-old Italian international in the summer transfer window.

Lorenzo Insigne progressed through the ranks at Napoli before breaking into their first-team setup in 2010. However, he took a couple of years to get going at San Paolo. And after three loan spells away from the club, the Italian international established himself as a mainstay for the Partenopei as well as the national side.

To date, Insigne has turned out nearly 400 times for Napoli, chipping in with 109 goals and 85 assists. His progress has also helped the 30-year-old become the club captain for the Serie A outfit, and he has only gone from strength to strength in recent years. However, Insigne’s current deal runs out next summer, which has piqued the interest of several clubs, including Liverpool.

The interest from Liverpool comes in the wake of a terrible 2020/21 campaign for Sadio Mane, who was a shell of his domineering best last term while Roberto Firmino blew hot and cold as well. With Mohamed Salah often shouldering the bulk of the responsibility in the final third, Jurgen Klopp could do well to pair his talisman up with a reliable attacking partner.

To that end, Liverpool have been heavily linked with Jeremy Doku while Kingsley Coman is also on their radar, as per recent reports. In addition, the Reds have also shown an interest in Harvey Barnes, with Insigne a viable target as well for the Premier League heavyweights.

That the 30-year-old, who has also been linked with Barcelona and Tottenham, is in the final year of his contract with Napoli ought to provide Liverpool with a boost as he could be available for a cut-price fee. However, Insigne is in talks with Napoli over a renewal, although the terms of the deal need to be sorted out.

Till they are, the suitors will continue to pile up, with Liverpool also facing stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in pursuit of the Italian international. What now remains to be seen is if the Reds launch the offensive for Insigne or if he stays put at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
