Arsenal are reportedly considering the possibility of making a €40 million offer to sign Miguel Gutierrez from Real Madrid this summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication ABC, Arsenal seem to be stepping up their efforts to land Miguel Gutierrez in the summer transfer window. The Gunners are weighing up the prospect of triggering his €40 million release clause to swoop him away from Real Madrid.
Miguel Gutierrez joined the Real Madrid youth setup from Getafe in 2011 aged ten before rapidly progressing through the ranks within their academy. The 19-year-old prospect finally got his big break at Real Madrid this past season, making his debut in the wake of an injury crisis at the club.
The young Spaniard has since gone on to make five further appearances for Los Blancos, even chipping in with an assist in the process. However, heading into the summer transfer window, Gutierrez faces an uncertain future, as far as his prospects with the first-team are concerned. This has piqued the interest of several suitors, including Arsenal.
The interest from Arsenal is not too surprising, as Mikel Arteta struggled all through the 2020/21 season to find a reliable backup to Kieran Tierney. With Tierney being rendered unavailable by a fair few injuries last term, the Gunners’ lack of a backup left-back was brutally exposed, especially in the second half of the season, when Sead Kolasinac was on loan at Schalke.
Kolasinac has since returned to Arsenal but does not have a future at the Emirates. And with the likes of Granit Xhaka, Cedric Soares, Bukayo Saka and Ainsley Maitland-Niles being far from natural left-backs, it is a prudent move for the north Londoners to sign an out-and-out defender this summer.
To that end, Arsenal are reported to be on the verge of signing Nuno Tavares. If that is indeed the case then the pursuit of Gutierrez might not make a lot of sense. Nevertheless, as per ABC, Arsenal are weighing up the prospect of triggering the €40 million release clause in his Real Madrid contract.
Apart from Arsenal, Leeds United have also been linked with Gutierrez previously, although the Whites have since signed Junior Firpo from Barcelona. As per the report, the teenage prospect also has offers from Getafe as well as fourteen other Spanish clubs. What now remains to be seen is if Arsenal make a €40 million offer to swoop him away from Real Madrid or if he remains in Spain.
