Manchester United have been handed a boost in pursuit of Raphael Varane, who is pushing for his exit from Real Madrid for a €50 million switch to Old Trafford

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Real Madrid are being forced to accept a €50 million offer from Manchester United to sell Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. Los Blancos want to recoup €70 million in exchange for the services of the French defender.

Varane has enjoyed an exemplary club footballing career despite still theoretically being in his peak years. The 28-year-old has been with Real Madrid for a decade now, having arrived from RC Lens in the summer of 2011. Since then, he has won every trophy on offer at club level multiple times, all while playing a key role in most of those triumphs.

To date, Varane has turned out 360 times for Los Blancos, chipping in with 17 goals and seven assists as well. However, after a fruitful stint with the club, it appears the French international’s time at Real Madrid could be coming to an end, with Manchester United seemingly being his next destination.

Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Varane, having made a few attempts to sign him previously. The Red Devils’ interest in the Real Madrid defender has reignited this summer, and the Premier League heavyweights have their best chance yet to snap him up, with the 28-year-old himself wanting a switch to Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s interest in Varane makes a great deal of sense as well, with Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly not managing to convince enough over the course of their respective stint with Manchester United. Therefore, signing a long-term partner for Harry Maguire is imperative for the English giants, who have already made a big signing this summer in the form of Jadon Sancho.

In recent weeks, Manchester United appear to have moved a step closer to landing the Frenchman, with reports suggesting that they have an agreement in place to swoop him away from Real Madrid. And now, Manchester United have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Varane, who is forcing a €50 million switch to Old Trafford.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid indeed succumb to the pressure from Varane to accept the €50 million offer from Manchester United even though they wish to recoup €70 million in exchange for his services. For now, Manchester United seem to be closing in on signing the 28-year-old defender and it will be interesting to see if a transfer sees the light of the day.
