Liverpool are reportedly continuing to keep tabs on Brighton & Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma as they look for reinforcements in the midfield department.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Premier giants Liverpool are continuing the monitor Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yves Bissouma, with Jurgen Klopp keen on bringing in a new central midfielder this summer.

Bissouma has been with Brighton for three years now and has evolved into a key player in the centre of the park for the Seagulls. One of the best players for the south coast club in the season gone by, the 24-year-old Malian international has been attracting interest from the top end of the Premier League table for quite a while now, with Arsenal and Liverpool quite heavily linked.

Arsenal, though, have seemingly moved on towards other targets, having made an opening offer for Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli, whereas Liverpool are continuing to keep tabs on Bissouma. The Reds’ interest in the Malian midfielder makes a world of sense as well, as Klopp needs to fill in the giant void left behind by the exit of Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman decided to run down his contract with Liverpool and has now secured a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving a huge gap in the midfield department at Liverpool. While young Curtis Jones is an option to step up, there remain question marks surrounding the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as well, so it becomes imperative that the Merseyside giants bring in at least one central midfielder this summer.

A move for Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella has been mooted recently, but with the Nerazzurri unlikely to sell, it would bode well for Liverpool to keep their options open, thus making Bissouma a viable transfer target this summer.

The Malian international has demonstrated solid all-round abilities in the middle of the park and has valuable Premier League experience as well, having featured 86 times in the top-flight for Brighton so far during his spell at the Amex Stadium, meaning there will be no period of adaptation necessary and he could hit the ground running.

Whether Liverpool now launch a move for Bissouma remains to be seen. It could take a big offer from Liverpool to convince Brighton to part ways with the midfielder given as they are already staring at the possibility of losing another of their top players in Ben White, who is being linked with a move to Arsenal, among other clubs.
