Tottenham Hotspur are ready to rival Everton in the pursuit of Conor Coady as Nuno Espirito Santo eyes a reunion.

Just a day after being unveiled as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, Nuno Espirito Santo is already keen on bringing in players from Wolves. According to Football Insider, the Portuguese tactician has identified Conor Coady as a “priority signing” as he looks to bolster his defensive options in the summer.

Spurs, though, are set to face stiff competition from Everton, with Rafael Benitez also believed to be a huge admirer of the Wolves centre-back. It seems both the new managers, at their respective clubs, are looking to go head to head in the pursuit of the English international, who is viewed as a defensive spearhead.

Tottenham have been in the market for a new centre-back for quite some time now. It appears the Lilywhites are ready to find an upgrade over Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, while the decline of Toby Alderweireld has forced them to find someone who can offer leadership qualities at the back.

The north London giants were reportedly in the market for Joachim Andersen earlier in the summer. They were also interested in Liverpool target Matthias Ginter, although they might want to reconsider, following the German’s poor performances in UEFA Euro 2020.

Coady is part of the England side for Euro 2020, but he is yet to feature in a single game. He is playing second-fiddle to Gareth Southgate’s preferred centre-back pairing of John Stones and Harry Maguire.

That hasn’t deterred Tottenham from eyeing a deal for the 28-year-old. He has the experience of playing under Nuno Espirito Santo, having featured in 191 competitive matches under the Portuguese tactician. Therefore, a reunion at Spurs should make a lot of sense, especially given the current state of the club’s defensive unit.

Everton, on the other hand, will be an interesting destination. Coady is a confessed Liverpool fan and was a member of the LFC youth team. His move to Merseyside could thus spark controversy, much like Benitez’s decision to join Everton.

From a sporting perspective, Coady might face a lot of competition from the likes of Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey. Tottenham, therefore, seems the likeliest option for the Wolves centre-back, as he looks to take the next step in his career.
