Manchester United have confirmed that they have an agreement in place with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of England international Jadon Sancho.

As confirmed on the club’s official website, Manchester United have reached an agreement with German outfit Borussia Dortmund for the signing of English winger Jadon Sancho in the current transfer window.

Sancho, 21, has been at the top of Manchester United’s transfer wishlist for well over a year now. Having failed in their attempts to land him last summer owing to Dortmund’s unwillingness to lower their £108 million valuation for the winger, the Red Devils have now finally been able to get their man.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement in principle with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Jadon Sancho. The signing is subject to contractual terms and a medical, which will be completed after Jadon’s involvement in the UEFA European Championship,” the official statement from the club read.

Sancho came through the youth ranks at United’s local rivals Manchester City before making a bold switch to Dortmund in 2017, where he has enjoyed a rapid rise to stardom. Widely regarded as one of the most exciting young wingers in the game currently, the 21-year-old is coming on the back of yet another prolific campaign with the Black and Yellows, helping them to a top-four finish in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal triumph.

Earlier on Thursday, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hanz-Joachim Watzke had confirmed the news of Sancho’s departure by holding a press conference, in which he had said: “We reached a general agreement with Manchester United on the transfer of Jadon Sancho, pending full completion, as there are still some formalities to agree on and the medical check to be completed.”

An official statement released by the Bundesliga giants confirmed the financial aspects of the deal. “The player, Jadon Sancho, is about to move from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United Football Club. Both clubs and the player reached an agreement on this today. If the transfer is realized, Manchester United will pay BVB a fixed transfer fee of EUR 85.0 million,” it read (h/t ESPN).

Personal terms and agent fees have also been agreed as was confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday, meaning the medicals remain the only formality that needs to be taken care of before Sancho is officially a Manchester United player. The 21-year-old’s arrival will address a major issue for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with the Red Devils having struggled without a natural right-winger for a number of years now.
