Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old goalkeeper Pau Lopez from Serie A giants AS Roma this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s search for a goalkeeper has taken them to AS Roma, with Pau Lopez emerging on their radar. In fact, the Catalan giants have also made an enquiry for the 26-year-old to AS Roma ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window.

Pau Lopez first broke out in senior-level at Barcelona’s local rivals Espanyol in 2014. After a four-year spell with the Pericos, he joined Real Betis, and after an impressive 2018/19 campaign, the 26-year-old joined AS Roma in the summer of 2019. Since then, he has been a regular for the Serie A outfit, amassing 76 appearances, keeping 18 clean sheets in the process.

However, heading into the summer transfer window, Lopez’s position at Roma is as uncertain as it has ever been amid the Giallorossi’s links with Rui Patricio. If the Portuguese goalkeeper does join the Serie A giants, Lopez could well be the goalkeeper to be sold. However, he does not seem to have any shortage of suitors, with Barcelona among those courting him.

Barcelona are set to enter the transfer market for a goalkeeper this summer, with Neto determined to leave the club in search of regular game-time. The Brazilian, to that end, has been linked with several clubs, including West Ham United and Arsenal.

In addition, there are concerns over the duration that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be unavailable after undergoing the procedure on his troublesome knee. There are also doubts over the future of Inaki Pena, who could be sent out on loan to rake in regular playing time to aid his development.

As a result, Barcelona have been linked with several goalkeepers heading into the summer transfer window, one of them being Leo Jardim. And now, Pau Lopez has emerged on Barcelona’s radar as well, with the Blaugrana even making an approach to AS Roma for the 26-year-old Catalan shot-stopper.

What now remains to be seen if Pau Lopez is the goalkeeper Barcelona seriously pursue in the summer transfer window as their shortlist of goalkeeping targets continues to beef up. For now, the 26-year-old appears to be the subject of interest for the Catalan giants, with a summer move possible.
