Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Renato Sanches, with the 23-year-old Portuguese international being closely monitored at UEFA Euro 2020.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Renato Sanches appears to be the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Los Blancos’ scouts have scrutinized the performances of the 23-year-old Portuguese international at UEFA Euro 2020, and a move could be considered before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Renato Sanches initially burst onto the scene at Benfica, attracting the who’s who of European football, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and the Premier League giants, in the wake of a superb debut campaign with the Portuguese outfit. A memorable UEFA Euro 2020 campaign followed, and he subsequently opted to join Bayern Munich.

However, the switch to Germany did not pan out as envisioned, with Sanches struggling to establish a foothold in a packed midfield unit. A loan move to Swansea City did not help his cause either, and he was solid to Lille in the summer of 2019 after three miserable years at Bayern. The move to Lille has worked well for him, with Sanches resurrecting his stuttering career.

The 23-year-old was heavily involved as Lille ended Paris Saint-Germain’s stronghold over Ligue 1, winning the domestic title at the end of a pulsating race. His progress in France has hardly gone unnoticed, and Sanches is being closely monitored at UEFA Euro 2020 by one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Real Madrid scouting his performances.

Real Madrid are tipped to enter the transfer market for a central midfielder this summer, and for good reason. Luka Modric seems to be running on his last legs as a professional football, with age starting to catch up to him. In addition, Toni Kroos is on the wrong side of 30, and it is imperative that Real Madrid lay down a succession plan for the duo.

To that end, Los Blancos have been linked with a bevy of central midfielders this summer, including Manuel Locatelli, who has set the stage alight at UEFA Euro 2020. And another player who has been impressive in the tournament is Renato Sanches, who has been tracked by Real Madrid as well in recent times.

The report claims that the Merengues’ scouts have been left impressed by Sanches’s performances so far at UEFA Euro 2020 and could monitor him closely in Portugal’s next games. It has also been mentioned that Real Madrid are not currently considering an offer for the 23-year-old, but a move could be in the offing based on their requirements. An intriguing transfer saga, therefore, beckons.
