Transfer News: Real Madrid line up Roberto Firmino as Haaland, Mbappe alternative

Real Madrid are eyeing a shock move for Roberto Firmino, with the Liverpool forward being identified as an ideal alternative for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

According to El Gol Digital, Real Madrid are ready to move on from their pursuit of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, as they identify three desired alternatives. One of them is Liverpool’s attacking outcast Roberto Firmino, who is apparently interested in playing in Laliga Santander next season.

The Brazilian forward, who isn’t even his nation’s first choice centre forward in the ongoing Copa America, is also being tipped to leave Anfield in the summer following a disappointing campaign. It appears his lack of productivity going forward has finally caught up with him, with the former Hoffenheim star falling behind Diogo Jota in the pecking order.

Real Madrid, however, are willing to give Firmino an opportunity to showcase his talents in the Spanish capital. His technical abilities, combined with his experience in the Premier League has appealed to Carlo Ancelotti, who himself worked his way around technically astute players during his time at Everton.

There is no secret that the Italian tactician will be keen on signing a long-term replacement for the ageing Karim Benzema. However, it seems he is willing to take a gamble by signing Firmino, hoping the forward to not only score goals in the Spanish top-flight but also additionally rely on the services of Luka Jovic, before going all out for someone like Erling Haaland.

Borussia Dortmund have already made it quite clear that their prized superstar is not for sale. Chelsea did run an inquiry regarding the Norwegian international, but the player is expected to cost almost €200 million – an impossible feat for any European club this summer.

Real Madrid, as a result, are ready to splash the cash on a far gettable target in Roberto Firmino. It is, however, fair to point out that another alternative for Los Blancos is Alexander Isak.

The young Swedish international has mesmerised the onlookers with his performances in the ongoing European Championship. Chelsea, in fact, have been linked with a €60 million swoop for the Real Sociedad forward, whose experience in Laliga could make him an excellent option for Ancelotti.

One final and perhaps the most ambitious option is Romelu Lukaku. Although the Belgian did express his desire to remain at Inter, the change of managers, coupled with the club’s poor financial could force the Nerazzurri to cash in on their star. Real Madrid, though, may have to face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in the pursuit of Lukaku, who is also playing well in Euro 2020.
