Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights firmly on Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak, who is impressing with Sweden in the UEFA Euro 2020.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central, La Liga giants Real Madrid are closely following Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak heading into the summer transfer window.

Isak burst onto the scenes at Swedish outfit AIK before sealing a big move to Borussia Dortmund in January 2017. However, the switch did not work out as per plans for the 21-year-old, who after having struggled to break into the senior setup, left for Willem II on loan before sealing a permanent transfer to Real Sociedad in the summer of 2019.

Since arriving in Spain, though, Isak has been able to get his career back on track, as he has started to fulfil the unbridled potential that he had shown during his time with AIK. Indeed, the 21-year-old has managed 33 goals in 89 games for La Real, including 17 in 34 La Liga games in the season gone by, which has put him on the radars of a host of Premier League clubs as well as Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are in desperate need of a new centre-forward as Karim Benzema enters the final phase of his career. The Frenchman has been top-notch in recent seasons but has lacked any sort of cover or support from those around him, which is something that new manager Carlo Ancelotti must resolve before the next season kicks off.

It is no secret that Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland remain the priorities for Real Madrid to bolster their attack in the upcoming summer transfer window. But Isak is a player that remains firmly on the radars of the club.

The report claims that Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to eliminate the buyback clause that was there in Isak’s contract. However, even if the Germans may not be able to re-sign him, La Real will have a fight on their hands to keep ahold of him, despite him having a release clause worth €70 million in his contract.

As for Real Madrid’s interest in the 21-year-old, the Merengues intend to one of the aforementioned priority targets this summer, which would make it difficult for them to meet Isak’s release clause as well. As a result, the Spanish capital giants would consider revisiting their interest in the Swedish international next year, provided he is still with Real Sociedad and the club needs a forward.

As things stand, though, Real Madrid are not taking their eyes off Isak but a move for him this summer may well be unlikely if they sign either Mbappe or Haaland.
