Liverpool whizkid Ethan Ennis is on the verge of a move to Chelsea, who have beaten Manchester United for his signature.

A report published by Football.London suggests Ethan Ennis’ move to Chelsea is imminent after the youngster posted a photo on Instagram, inside the Cobham training ground. The Liverpool whizkid appeared to have turned down a new deal in favour of a switch to Stamford Bridge, convinced by the club’s commitment towards young players.

Chelsea have also beaten Manchester United in the pursuit of Ennis, although the Red Devils’ dates back to few months. It is, nevertheless, an exciting addition for the Blues as they continue to bolster their ranks in the youth team, following the success of Reece James, Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour.

Ennis is currently contracted to Liverpool FC Youth, where he featured in eight U18 Premier League matches for the LFC U18 side. He is an offensive midfielder by trade, blessed with technical prowess. He is also quite skilled in one-on-one situations – making him a snappy attacker who can use his burst of pace to beat players at will.

In addition to dynamism in the final third, Ennis is proficient when it comes to delivering crosses into the box. He also favours playing on the left-hand side, where he can drift infield and have an attempt on goal.

At the age of just 16, Ennis has already raised a lot of eyebrows with his skill and performances in the English youth divisions. His move to Chelsea could see him continue his growth as he joins a large contingent of talented young players who are keen on making the breakthrough in professional football.

One of Chelsea’s finest young players in Valentino Livramento has already had a lot of success this past season. In fact, he is courted by a number of top clubs including AC Milan this summer.

Ethan Ennis will be hoping to follow the footsteps of Livramento and indeed other players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James, as he looks to make his professional breakthrough in the years to come.

Liverpool, on the other hand, haven’t had much luck with their youth players in recent years, with Harry Wilson, Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster all failing to make their breakthrough into the first-team. There is, however, a cause for optimism as Harvey Eliott returns to Anfield in the summer after starring in the Champions League.

This is one of those things that makes me question Klopp and the youth academy coaches. If Harvey Elliott was in Dortmond, by now we would have been storming our brains and wishing we could bring him to the first team at Anfield. He would have already been showcased in the first team so much that his name would have been listed among the most sort after young players in Europe. In Liverpool fc, we are busy sending them to lower leagues to cut them down to size. Our Klopp is ready to stick with tired, out of form and misfits instead of launching this youths to greatness.
