London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keeping tabs on Leonardo Spinazzola ahead of a possible summer battle for the 28-year-old.

According to a report by Daily Express, Leonardo Spinazzola is the subject of interest from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur over a move in the summer transfer window. The London rivals are set to go head-to-head in pursuit of the 28-year-old Italian international.

Spinazzola has found a stable footing in his career since joining AS Roma from Juventus in the summer of 2019. Since then, the full-back has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a regular for the Giallorossi while also becoming the first-choice left-back for the Italian national side.

This past season, the 28-year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions for Roma, chipping in with three goals and eight assists. His progress has piqued the interest of two Premier League heavyweights, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur keen on signing him.

Chelsea are set to enter the market for a left-back this summer, with Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri both facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. In fact, both the defenders have been linked with a move to Napoli, with several other Italian clubs being linked with the duo as well.

Chelsea, on their part, are keeping their options open, with Alfonso Pedraza emerging as a target. And Spinazzola is a viable target as well, with his prowess in the final third making him an ideal fit in the system that Thomas Tuchel has utilised at Chelsea till now. As for Tottenham, the departure of Danny Rose has opened up a spot that can be filled by the 28-year-old.

While Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon are already a part of the first-team squad, it is being touted that Paulo Fonseca, who is set to be appointed as the new Tottenham boss, could raid his former club AS Roma, with Spinazzola an option worth considering. Fonseca is already well-versed with the best qualities from his time at Stadio Olimpico.

Spinazzola’s impressive performances with Italy at UEFA Euro 2020 have further captured the attention of Chelsea and Tottenham. What now remains to be seen is if the two London rivals do end up launching the offensive for the 28-year-old in the summer transfer window, or if AS Roma manage to keep hold of their prized defender.
