Real Madrid are reportedly set to keep a close watch on 23-year-old Spanish international Dani Olmo at UEFA Euro 2020.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid seem to be firming up their interest in Dani Olmo heading into the summer transfer window. The Spanish giants are set to closely monitor the performance of the 23-year-old Spanish international at UEFA Euro 2020.

Dani Olmo has been vindicated in his decision to leave Barcelona aged just 16 in search of regular first-team football. After breaking out at Dinamo Zagreb, the Spaniard went from strength to strength before capturing the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the world. RB Leipzig won the race to sign him in January 2020, and he has not looked back since.

2020/21 was a solid campaign for the 23-year-old, who had a tally of seven goals and 12 assists in 46 appearances across all competitions to show for his efforts. Eighteen impressive months at the Red Bull Arena have one again put him on the radars of the European bigwigs like Real Madrid while also establishing himself as a full-fledged Spanish international.

The interest from Real Madrid makes a lot of sense considering Luka Modric is well into the final stage of his career and will need to start getting phased out in the upcoming season. With Toni Kroos well into his thirties as well, the presence of Federico Valverde and possibly, Martin Odegaard will not be enough for Carlo Ancelotti.

To that end, Real Madrid have been linked with a number of midfielders, including Jamal Musiala, with Dani Olmo a viable target as well. And Los Blancos are set to keenly track the performances of the 23-year-old at the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020, with Spain already having played their first game, against Sweden.

While primarily an attacking midfielder, Olmo is equally adept at reprising the role Modric usually essays at Real Madrid in addition to also being a viable option on the right wing. Therefore, Olmo is certainly an option worth considering for Real Madrid, who can use him in a variety of roles depending on the system Carlo Ancelotti chooses to implement.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid take a concrete step to secure the services of Olmo this summer, with the Spanish international eager to make Spain his next destination. For now, the Merengues are keeping a close watch on the 23-year-old at the European Championships, with a summer move possibly on the horizon.
