Liverpool are among the clubs keeping tabs on FC Porto whizkid Fabio Vieira, who has made an impression in the U21 Euro.

According to journalist Bruno Andrade of Mais Futebol, Liverpool are keeping an eye on the development of Fabio Vieira. The FC Porto youngster has raised many eyebrows with his performances in the recently included Under-21 European Championship, with his current contract expiring in 2022.

Although Porto are ready to assure him a contract renewal, Liverpool’s interest is growing, especially after the playmaker was voted as the Player of the Tournament in U21 Euro, thanks to his all-round performances and a crucial assist in the narrow 1-0 win Spain in the semi-final.

Vieira’s contributions in the final third were indeed vital in helping the Portugal U21 reach the final of the competition, only to be beaten by Germany. The youngster, nonetheless, has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence, even though he did make 19 Liga NOS appearances for Porto this past season.

An attacking midfielder by trade, Vieira is a dynamic individual who can accelerate the ball in the middle of the park. He can play on both flanks as well, thus indicating the player’s versatility while his vision allows him to create chances in the final third.

However, it is fair to point out that only three of Vieira’s 19 league appearances were starts. And although the 21-year-old is almost destined to earn a more prominent role at Porto next season, it appears Liverpool are ready to take him in, as part of the club’s major overhaul in the midfield department.

After losing Georginio Wijnaldum, it seems the Reds are bracing themselves for a mass exodus in the middle of the park. Naby Keita has been a subject of speculation from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is being courted by West Ham United, leaving Klopp devoid of creative options in midfield.

In Fabio Vieira, though, the German tactician could himself a talented youngster, who has already showcased his skills in the U21 European championship. The Portuguese whizkid might not have the experience at the highest level of football, but he can surely prove to be a useful addition to the Liverpool side that requires reinforcements in the creative department.

That said, Vieira’s future is likely to be decided by FC Porto as his contract doesn’t expire until 2022. The Portuguese giants might be forced to cash in, though, should the player rejects any potential extension – one that will allow him to leave the club for free next summer.
