Chelsea are ready to test Borussia Dortmund’s resolve by initiating attempts to sign star forward Erling Haaland this summer.

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea have initiated contact with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of Erling Haaland. Thomas Tuchel has informed Roman Abramovich that a new centre forward could be imperative to continue the club’s progress, with the Dortmund star apparently leading the shortlist.

The Premier League giants, though, are aware of the financial difficulties they could face, as Haaland might potentially cost as much as £170 million. His agent Mino Raiola is also demanding a staggering wage packet of £300,000 a week that will make him the highest earner at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s desire to step up their efforts in the pursuit of Haaland stems from the tricky situation of Harry Kane. It is going to be difficult for a fellow Premier League club to prise the Tottenham forward away from north London while Romelu Lukaku has recently admitted that he intends to stay at Inter Milan, despite speculations about his potential return to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues, meanwhile, are open to using Tammy Abraham as a makeweight in the negotiations for Haaland. The former Aston Villa forward is valued at £40 million and is reportedly wanted by Newcastle United. However, it remains unlikely that Dortmund would prefer the Englishman, who does have a reputation for being inconsistent.

Die Schwarzgelben, though, might welcome the exchange of Callum Hudson-Odoi, as they were linked with a move for the winger earlier this summer.

It appears the Englishman has been identified as a potential replacement for his fellow countryman Jadon Sancho, who, in turn, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Manchester United. Dortmund are expected to demand around £80 million for the services of their star attacker.

The potential departure of Haaland could help them further pocket at least £150 million, giving them a net income of over £200 million – enough to bring about a major overhaul in the squad. It could make sense as neither Sancho nor Haaland is guaranteed to remain at Signal Iduna Park for long while the club will also welcome their new head coach Marco Rose next season.

Chelsea, too, may never get the opportunity to sign Haaland ever again if they miss out on him next season, knowing giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are set to pounce on him, once the market recession comes to an end.
