Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Harry Winks, who is valued at £25 million by Tottenham Hotspur, this summer.

According to an exclusive report by Stretty News, Manchester United have made an approach to sign Harry Winks in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are eyeing the English midfielder as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba, with Tottenham Hotspur looking to recoup £25 million for him.

Harry Winks has been with Tottenham Hotspur all his career, having joined the north London club as a six-year-old in 2002. After making superb progress in Spurs’ youth setup, the Englishman got his big break in the first-team squad in 2014, while he was still in his teens.

Since then, though, the 25-year-old has endured a roller-coaster of a ride at Tottenham, struggling to nail down his spot as a regular for stretched periods. The 2020/21 season proved to be especially difficult for Winks, who started just nine Premier League games, making more starts in Europe. His predicament at Tottenham has alerted Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The interest from Manchester United is a tad bit perplexing, considering the future of Paul Pogba does not really appear to be bleak, even though the report suggests that Winks is being viewed as a possible replacement for the Frenchman.

However, with Nemanja Matic on the wrong side of 30 and also being linked with a possible summer exit from Manchester United, the English midfielder could well be a long-term replacement for the Serb. Having said that, Winks would not be a like-for-like replacement for Matic, and will instead be yet another player of a similar profile as Fred and Scott McTominay.

Instead, pursuing a player like Saul Niguez could make more sense for Manchester United, seeing as he can essay multiple roles in midfield equally adeptly. Apart from Winks, the Red Devils are also pursuing a move for Jack Grealish, although the finances involved might force them to make a move for Winks, who is priced at around £25 million by Tottenham.

Winks is not the only Tottenham star on Manchester United’s agenda this summer, with Harry Kane being heavily linked with a possible switch to Old Trafford. As far as the midfielder himself is concerned, it will be interesting to see if United follow through with a £25 million move, having made initial contact over a summer transfer.
