Atletico Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Alvaro Odriozola from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alvaro Odriozola is set to end his Real Madrid sojourn in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old Spanish defender is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid, with Athletic Bilbao also hoping to prise him away from Los Blancos.

Alvaro Odriozola arrived at Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2018 following a 12-year spell with La Real, having been with the Basque outfit since joining their academy in 2006. The move to Real Madrid, though, has not worked out one bit for the young Spaniard.

While the player has shown flashes of brilliance, he has largely had to play second fiddle to Dani Carvajal over the last three years, with a loan move to Bayern Munich not working out either. To compound his frustrations, even Lucas Vazquez usurped him as a right-back this past season which meant Odriozola only managed to start 10 of the 52 games that Real Madrid played in the term.

Vazquez has now signed a new three-year deal with Real Madrid, who are also interested in signing a right-back, with Achraf Hakimi among those linked. This essentially means that Odriozola’s time at the club is reaching its end, which has alerted Atletico Madrid heading into the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid are currently in a precarious situation over the future of Kieran Trippier, who is being courted by Manchester United this summer. If the English international does end up calling it quits at the Wanda Metropolitano, the newly-crowned La Liga champions will need to enter the market for a new right-back.

To that end, the interest in Odriozola makes a great deal of sense, with Atletico Madrid having a decent enough chance of swooping him away from Real Madrid. In addition to Los Rojiblancos, Athletic Bilbao are also keen on signing the Spanish defender.

As for Real Madrid, they are hoping to recoup a reasonable enough sum in exchange of the services of Odriozola, which they can then invest back into the transfer market for their priority transfers. As things stand, Atletico Madrid could well be the club to land the 24-year-old in the summer transfer window.
