Barcelona have reportedly offered 22-year-old Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma a five-year deal worth €10 million per year.

According to a report by Tutto Mercato Web, Barcelona have made an official offer to Gianluigi Donnarumma over a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana have tabled a five-year deal to the 22-year-old Italian international, with the contract worth €10 million per year.

Donnarumma has come a long way since breaking into the AC Milan first-team setup aged just 16. Now one of the best goalkeepers in the world, the 22-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Milan for a few years now and was instrumental in earning them a top four finish in the 2020/21 season.

Donnarumma, though, made his 251st and final appearance for the Rossoneri around 10 days ago, as his contract is set to run out this summer and the Serie A giants have ended negotiations over a renewal due to his excessive wage demands. The Italian international, however, does not have any shortage of suitors, with Barcelona, in particular, being keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona, who were initially offered the services of Donnarumma, does not make a great deal of sense, considering Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been one of their most critical players in recent years. And, while there have been murmurings of an interest from Borussia Dortmund, that is set to die down following Gregor Kobel’s switch to the Signal Iduna Park.

So, while Neto is set to depart Camp Nou this summer, signing Donnarumma as a backup to ter Stegen – or even as a competition for the German international – does not make a great deal of sense unless Barcelona plan to offload ter Stegen. Otherwise, this is hardly a prudent move on the part of the Catalan giants amid a mountain of financial troubles.

Nevertheless, it looks like Barcelona are in pole position to sign the 22-year-old, who has now been offered a five-year deal worth €10 million per season. Meanwhile, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on signing Donnarumma and it will be interesting to see if they can table a better offer to him.

For now, Barcelona have made their official offer to secure the services of Donnarumma on a free transfer this summer and it remains to be seen if the Italian international is ready to accept the €10 million-a-season five-year contract to make the switch to Camp Nou.
